Titanic Research Project

For this assessment, I chose the Titanic as my research project because of all the mysteries and theories surrounding it. The Titanic was a luxurious cruise ship that sailed from England to New York City in 1912. Many people were on board for immigration, business or leisure. At 11:40 pm on 14 April 1912, the ship struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Eventually, more than 1,500 people died, with only 706 survivors. It remains one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

Day and Night

For this assessment, we are learning how time moves by studying day and night. One side of Earth faces the Sun, causing daytime to occur there. The other side faces the Moon, resulting in night time. The Earth rotates around its own axis, which also makes the planet rotate. It takes about 24 hours for our Earth to make a full spin, which is about a day for daytime and night time to take turns.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

 

 

Idioms

For this assessment, we are identify what is a idiom, and to understand its figurative meaning. Idiom is a phrase that can have hidden meanings. The words do not reflect their true meaning. For instance, the phrase “break a leg” does not literally mean “break your leg”. It is considered to symbolise good luck.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

 

Hourglass, Sundial and Clepsydra

For this assessment, we are researching information about the hourglass, sundial and clepsydra. An hourglass is a tool that measures time using sand that flows from one glass part to another. With two glass bulbs (top and bottom) connected by a tiny hole in the middle. A sundial is a circular plate which has a triangular gnomon. It tells the time by observing the shadow. Lastly, the clepsydra has two bowls and water leaks from the hole at the bottom to the bottom bowl. The water level indicates the time.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

 

Waltzing Matilda

LI: To understand the story within poems.

For this assessment, we have used 25 words to summarize Waltzing Matilda. The poem was first written by Banjo Paterson in 1895. Later, it was transformed into a song. The subject of this poem’s is about an swagman who catches a sheep and puts it in a tucker bag. He is later arrested by the police and ends his own life by drowning in a billabong.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

 

The 1891 Shearers’ Strike

For this assessment, we are researching the history of the “Great Shearers Strike”. The earliest and most significant industrial disputes in Australian history. It was a dispute between the employers and the shearers. Happened in Materializing in Central Queensland, Australia, and the dispute end up began when the price of wool has dropped. The employers decided to hire more laborers and lower salaries, causing the dispute to lead to a strike.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

Hone Tuwhare – NZ Poet

LI: To understand poetry can transform everyday life into something meaningful. Poets use various techniques to make this happen, creating specific feelings and moods for the reader.

For this assessment, a moodboard was created that depicted the Child Coming Home in the Rain from the Store. The poem was written by Hone Tuwhare, a poet from New Zealand. He is widely respected for his candor.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

 

Malala Yousafzai

LI: To identify the main arguments Malala presents for education and peace.

For this assessment, a poster was created that discussed “what Malala Yousafzai once said”. Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan. At the age of 15, she was shot by the Taliban. In July 12, 2013 she gave a speech in support of women’s rights and access to education. Did you know that Malala Yousafzai was the youngest person to win the Nobel Prize.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

Procedural Text

LI: To create a procedural text to tell someone how to do something using a sequence of  steps, instructions or actions in a particular order.

For this assessment, We are recording the steps of how to make a dinosaur skeleton using colored paper and a glue stick. We created a first model as a practice to identify areas for improvement. After that we created an improved version by following the improved step.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

Once a Panther

LI: To identify the key historical context and events related to the Polynesian Panthers and the Dawn Raids as depicted in the graphic novel.

For this assessment, The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers.” Our team created a comic strip that illustrates a setting related to the themes of prejudice, justice, or taking a stand in today’s world. The comic strip uses thought bubbles to explain the scene.

I find this activity enjoyable, because it provides me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge.
