Mapping the Migratory Flight of the Kuaka

LI: To use Google My Maps to show the migratory flight path of the Kuaka.

For this assignment, we are mapping the migratory flight of the Kuaka. The reason why Kuaka birds travels so far is because they have many breeding grounds. These areas include Australia and Alaska, among others. Kuaka prefer wet/damp places to migrate in. They like to live near river, sea, etscetera……. The total distance between New Zealand and Alaska is 11,929.28 kilometers in total. Do you know that the word Kuaka in Maori means Bar-tailed Godwit/Birds of Mystery.

I enjoyed the activity, because I acquire a knowledge of Kuaka birds now.

 

 

Photo Story

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling.

For this assignment, we insert pictures to create a storytelling for Riverwalk. The first image shows that the classes was crossing the road. The remaining images are just playground, group photos and landscape.

I enjoyed the riverwalk, because it’s was fun to playing with my friend.

 

Kuaka : The Marathon Bird

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

For this assignment, we learned about Kuaka birds. A nickname for Kuaka birds is Bar-tailed Godwit. We read the story and predict what the story is about. I predict it’s going to be about the kuaka, because there’s a picture of kuaka birds flying in the sky. We make “dot to dot connections” about the kuaka as well. For example, the travel and navigation connections are that they fly in flocks.

After answering the questions and gathering all the new infomations. We added more infomation to the “dot-to-dot connections” and highlighted them in different colors.

I enjoyed the activity, because I acquire a knowledge of Kuaka birds now.

 

 

Working In Groups

LI: To understand that everyone has a role to play when we are working in groups.

For this assignment, we used our team work and learned about the Kuaka. (The Marathon Bird) An nickname for Kuaka birds is Bar-tailed-godwit. Their avaervge speed in 80 km per hour.Teamwork is important because it allows us to share ideas, envolved /support each other, and solve problems more easily. We engaged in discussions to work together. We also define words to have an understanding of their meaning.

I enjoy this activity, because I learned something new.

LI: To create a collage of images or short movie that reflects my time at camp.

Our camp at Kokako Lodge in Hunua was fun to spend time there! My collage are these photos because it’s a good memory to remember with friend. My favourite part of camp was the pancake race, because it was really fun and creative to make the pancakes with my group.

The Kokako

LI: To use our smart searching skills.

For this assignment, we used our smart searching skills to create an informative paragraph on the North Island Kokako bird. To gather all the information we need to find three links about Kokako birds, diet, habitat, interesting facts, and scientific name.  We used different kinds of online resources. It is believed that the Kokako is an extinct bird. However, there is a belief that a small population may still exist on the South Island and Stewart Island.

I enjoy this activity, because I learned something new.

Moment In Time

LI: To write a poem that describes a moment in time.

For this project, we collaborated in pairs to describe what it felt like to paddle closer to Hunua Falls. We selected our words with thoughtfulness to describe the image in our minds. We used Wordhippo to help us with emotional words. For instance, another word for beautiful is glamorous. We chose this challenge because it was fascinating to try.

I enjoy this activity, because I learned something new.

 

What Samuel Marsden Saw

LI: To use the information in the diary extract to create an image of what we think Samuel Marsden saw when he sailed down the Tamaki awa.

For this project, With a pair we used Adobe Express to create a representation of what Samuel Marsden observed when he first arrived in New Zealand. Our design includes the Waka, a significant cultural symbol. This was due to the fact that in the 18th century, Maori people used them to cross the river. To match the timeline we added more trees and cottages.

I enjoy this activity, because I learned something new.

Who Was Samuel Marsden

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out who Samuel Marsden was and what he is known for.

For this assignment, we used our smart searching skills to create a information paragraph about Samuel Marsden. Samuel Marsden was a priest in the Church of England. He arrived in the Bay of Islands in 1814, during a journey that also included Ruatara. Marsden established the first Christian mission in New Zealand in 1814.

I found this activity Challenging as it i got challenged to learn facts all together about Samuel Marsden, because I learned something new.

Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads.

For this assignment, we used our smart searching skills to understand what kauri dieback is and how to prevent it from spreading.

Kauri dieback is a disease that has the potential to kill Kauri trees. Unfortunately, there is no known solution to this issue.  When a Kauri tree have the Kauri Dieback. The disease starves the tree and kills it. When a tree die and fallen, the disease can spread to other trees nearby. Did you know that kauri dieback is something that can be carried by humans and then spread to the trees? So, next time you go to a Kauri forest, remember to clean your shoes before going in.

I enjoyed this activity because it erudition me new things.
